Andersonville Prison

The Andersonville National Historic Site in Georgia preserves the historical Andersonville Prison, a Confederate POW camp from 1864 to 1865. Commanded by Captain Henry Wirz, the overcrowded prison faced severe shortages, leading to the deaths of nearly 13,000 of the 45,000 Union prisoners due to scurvy and dysentery.
