Michael Moran, born in Tullamore in 1829, served in the Union Army’s 4th Infantry, Company E. He died in 1864, and is buried at Andersonville Prison, Georgia. He lived in Brooklyn, New York, and was part of a military family, with relevant details provided by authors Danny Leavy and Kevin Guing.

EXTREMELY RARE PHOTOGRAPHS
The site is adding information about 37 soldiers from Tullamore who fought in the US Civil War, including five imprisoned at Andersonville Prison. This prison, notorious for brutal conditions, saw 13,000 deaths. The project, aided by Damian Shiels, will now include profiles of Offaly soldiers detained there.
