Walsh Island, a village in County Offaly, Ireland, derives its name from its fertile hilltop surroundings in the Bog of Allen. Situated 1 km from the R400 road and 12 km from Portarlington, it had a population of 443 as per the 2016 census.

James Lawlor, born in County Offaly, served in the Civil War before settling in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Tragically, in November 1878, he and three of his young children died from diphtheria within two weeks. His wife, Mary, persevered despite numerous losses and ultimately passed away in 1926, leaving a legacy of resilience.
