Thanks To Everyone Who Has Made Contact With Us, Helping To Add Vital Information To The Stories of Forgottten Offaly Soldiers – US Civil War 1861-1865.

CONTACT US IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION THAT COULD HELP TO “CLOSE THE CIRCLE” ON FORGOTTEN LIVES

Its almost a year since we began this site dedicated to rediscovering the stories of the Offaly men and woman who fought in the US Civil War. Over that period we have had some wonderful feedback from our readers & subscribers. It is hugely heartening for us to know that there are so many people out there interested in this subject and who also have such valuable information to share. So many of you have already put so much time and effort into researching your family history and Irish roots and have been kind enough to pass on some amazing details that really helped to clarify, and in some cases, complete the story of these Offaly natives. I hope those people don’t mind if we mention some of them here and of how they have assisted us.

To cousins Jen Foley and Lee Ann Foley who had already done so much work researching their 2xGreat Grandfather Carey Heaton. They were so supportive in helping us to fully unravel the story of this Offaly born soldier. Thanks again Jen & Lee Ann.

A BIG thanks To Jackie Budell who was a huge help in our research on Offaly man Patrick Fox.

Thanks to John Paul McGuire who contacted us in relation to the story we published on Patrick Guilfoyle from Moneygall. His vital information on his Great Grandfather means we can re visit this story and clear up details.

Thanks to Doug Cummings from New Jersey who reached out to us after we published a story about his GGGrandfather –

Edward Hopper.

To Ann Cooney Trombly, a big thank you for contacting us with information on James McLaughlin.

Thanks to Mary Ward who gave us some great information about Offaly soldier John Henry Cantwell.

To Tara Frugalone who sent us some extra information on John Stephens, the Father of Margaret Mitchell who was the author of the famous novel, “Gone with the Wind”.

To Sheila Ives who contacted us about Offaly born John Flanagan. This is a story we have yet to find the vital piece of information to “complete the circle”, but we haven’t forgotten about it Sheila, hopefully soon we get the break we need.

Thanks to Tom Ryan from Doon, Offaly who let us know about a relation of his who served in the Civil War – Thomas Duffy Ryan.

We are constantly adding names of Offaly born soldiers to the site and it can be sometimes a slow and tedious process. The more information we have the easier for us to verify a persons correct details. So thanks again to everyone who has helped and our apologies if we have left anyone out.
