Other Details Written in 1882, the history of the regiment states that this soldier was killed at the The Battle of the Wilderness in May 1864. But other records indicate he was captured and imprisoned in Andersonville where he died of disease in August 1864. Veitch Thompson had only enlisted in March of 1864 in New York. Mention is made in the account of The Battle of The Wilderness of his Company (E) which contained new recruits becoming very disjointed during battle.
Damian Shiels and Andersonville Irish Project – Irish in the American Civil War has more information.
